Well we can all relax! Singing Happy Birthday to our children is no longer breaking the law.

The story of Happy Birthday and copyright is a long and convoluted one and highlights how bizarre these situations can be.  Thankfully a couple of filmmakers Rupa Marya and Robert Siegel tested the copyright holders case.  A US federal judge has found that the words to the song are not covered by copyright.

But before we get too excited the BBC points out the rest of the world may not get to breath as easy as the US 'Happy Birthday ruled out of copyright

I look forward to seeing the film Rupa and Robert are making about the song.
